WIDE-BAY BURNETT
VINEYARDS
Stretching from mountain ranges to coastal hamlets, the Wide-Bay Burnett region is quickly earning a reputation as a ‘food bowl’ of Queensland.
While regional Queensland may seem an unlikely place to find fine wine, Wide-Bay Burnett is home to a handful of delightful boutique vineyards that offer true country hospitality and ‘grape to glass’ experiences.
The Wide-Bay Burnett region includes the including the regional towns of Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Gympie, and stretches from Dawes Range to the Dividing Range to Brisbane Ranges, ending near Noosa.
There are currently just four wine producers in the Wide-Bay Burnett region, making it a far-flung but special experience for those who choose to explore the northern reaches of Queensland’s Vine and Shine Trail.
Venture in from Hervey Bay and you’ll find Hill of Promise Estate, in charming Childers. This boutique winery and cellar door is known for its country hospitality, with wine tastings hosted on the veranda of their heritage Queenslander.
A stone’s through from Hill of promise is Vitner’s Secret in the township of North Isis, boasting six acres of vines, producing Marsanne, Verdelho, Shiraz, and Cabernet grapes. Travel directly south to call in on Brierley Wines in South Isis, offering tasting of their hand-made, preservative-free wines – just be sure to book ahead, as this cellar door is appointment only!
Finally, at the southernmost reaches of the region, inland from Noosa, you’ll find Dingo Creek Vineyard, a boutique winery growing Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, as well as sweet, sticky Muscat.
